Overview of IEC 62368-1: Safety of Information Technology and Audio/Video Equipment
IEC/EN 62368-1, established in 2010, is a new standard governing Audio/Video, information, and communication technology equipment. It amalgamates two previous standards, IEC/EN 60065 for Audio/Video electronics and IEC/EN 60950-1 for Information Technology Equipment. This standard emerged due to the convergence of these two fields, where modern equipment often encompasses both AV and computing capabilities. It adopts a 'Hazard Based' approach for product assessment, acknowledging the diverse range of covered products. Importantly, IEC/EN 62368-1 is not merely a merger of its predecessors but a distinct standard applicable only to products within its defined scope. It outlines specific compliance criteria concerning both performance and construction aspects.
