Q1 2024 Consumer Product Recalls Analysis
A total of 121 consumer products recall notices were issued by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) from January-March, 2024. Notably, 30 recalls from Health Canada were done jointly with the CPSC.

Q3 2022 Consumer Product Recalls Analysis
A total of 66 consumer product recall notices were issued by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) in Q3 (Jul -Sep) 2022. Notably, 21 recalls from Health Canada were done jointly with the CPSC. In addition, Health Canada reported 47 consumer product recall notices issued in Q3 (Jul – Sep) 2022.
Q2 2022 Consumer Product Recalls Analysis
A total of 65 consumer product recall notices were issued by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) from Apr 1 to Jun 30, 2022. Notably, 23 recalls from the CPSC were done jointly with Health Canada. In addition, Health Canada reported a total of 49 consumer product recall notices issued from Apr 1 to Jun 30, 2022.
Q1 2022 Consumer Product Recalls Analysis
A total of 73 consumer product recall notices were issued by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) from January 1st to March 31st, 2022. Notably, 16 recalls from Health Canada were done jointly with the CPSC. In addition, Health Canada reported a total of 42 consumer product recall notices issued in Q1 (January – March) 2022.
Q4 2021 Consumer Product Recalls Analysis
There were a total of 46 consumer products recall notices issued by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) during the fourth quarter of 2021 (October – December). The CPSC conducted 20 of these recalls in conjunction with Health Canada. In addition, Health Canada issued 58 product recall notices during the fourth quarter of 2021.
Q3 2021 Consumer Product Recalls Analysis
There were a total of 62 consumer products recall notices issued by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) during the third quarter of 2021 (July – September). The CPSC conducted 20 of these recalls in conjunction with Health Canada. In addition, Health Canada issued 59 product recall notices during the third quarter of 2021.

There were a total of 66 consumer products recall notices issued by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) from April - June 2021, with nearly one-third (20) of the recalls conducted in conjunction with Health Canada. In addition, Health Canada issued 55 product recall notices during the first quarter of 2021.

2020 Consumer Product Recalls Analysis
In 2020, there were a total of 248 recall notices issued by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission for consumer products. Health Canada issued a total of 174 recall notices for consumer products in 2020. A total of 32 of the product recalls were jointly issued by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada.
April 2020 Consumer Product Recalls Analysis
In April, the U.S. CPSC issued 24 recall notices for consumer products, slightly fewer than the 26 recalls issued in March. There were 15 recall notices issued for consumer products by Health Canada in April, slightly fewer than the 17 recalls in March. The EU’s Rapid Alert System issued 105 consumer product recall alerts in April, an almost 25% increase over March.
March 2020 Consumer Product Recalls Analysis
The CPSC issued 26 recall notices for consumer products in March, with about 40% of the recalls carried out in conjunction with Health Canada. In March, there were 17 recall notices issued for consumer products by Health Canada, slightly more than the 13 recalls in February. There were 81 consumer product recall alerts issued through the EU’s Rapid Alert System in March, about a 30% decrease over February.
February 2020 Consumer Product Recalls Analysis
The CPSC issued 19 recall notices for consumer products in February, with about 20% of the recalls carried out in conjunction with Health Canada. In February, there were 13 recall notices issued for consumer products by Health Canada, the same number of recalls as the previous month. There were 113 consumer product recall alerts issued through the EU’s Rapid Alert System in February, about a 15% increase over January.
January 2020 Consumer Product Recalls Analysis
In January, there were 17 recall notices issued for consumer products by the CPSC, with five of the recalls carried out by the CPSC in conjunction with Health Canada. Health Canada issued 13 recall notices for consumer products, which was about half the number of recall notices issued for consumer products in December 2019. There were 96 relevant product recall alerts issued through the EU’s Rapid Alert System in January 2020.
December 2019 Consumer Product Recalls Analysis
The CPSC issued 13 recall notices consumer products in December, about a third less than that in November (17 notices). In December, Health Canada issued 25 recall notices for consumer products, which almost double of the number of recall notices issued for consumer products in November 2019 (14 recall notices). A total of 88 relevant product recall alerts issued through the EU’s Rapid Alert System (RAPEX) in December, a 26% decrease compared to 119 recalls in the previous month.
November 2019 Consumer Product Recalls Analysis
In November, there were 17 recall notices issued for consumer products by the CPSC, which was in line with the 18 recall notices issued in October 2019. About a quarter of the recalls (four notices) were carried out by the CPSC in conjunction with Health Canada. Health Canada issued 14 recall notices for consumer products in November, which was less than half the number of recall notices issued for consumer products in October 2019 (26 recall notices). There were 119 relevant product recall alerts issued through the EU’s Rapid Alert System (RAPEX) in November, a 21% increase over the 94 recalls in the previous month.
October 2019 Consumer Product Recalls Analysis
The CPSC issued 18 recall notices issued for consumer products in October, the same number as September. One-third of the recalls (six notices) were carried out by the CPSC in conjunction with Health Canada. Consumer product recalls issued by Health Canada increased 30% from September to October, with a total of 26 recall notices issued for consumer products in October. In October, 94 relevant product recall alerts were issued through the EU’s Rapid Alert System (RAPEX), the same as the number of recalls issued in the previous month.
September 2019 Consumer Product Recalls Analysis
In September 2019, there were 18 recall notices issued for consumer products by the CPSC, a 30% decline from August. One-third of the recalls (six notices) were carried out by the CPSC in conjunction with Health Canada. Health Canada issued 20 recall notices for consumer products in September 2019, which was the same as the number of recall notices issued for consumer products in July & August 2019. There were 94 relevant product recall alerts issued through the EU’s Rapid Alert System (RAPEX) in September 2019, a 30% increase from 65 recalls issued in the previous month.
August 2019 Consumer Product Recalls Analysis
In August 2019, there were 26 recall notices issued for consumer products by the CPSC. Nine recalls were carried out by the CPSC in conjunction with Health Canada, and 2 recalls were carried out by the CPSC in conjunction with the Health Canada and Mexico’s Profeco. In August 2019, there were 20 recall notices issued for consumer products by Health Canada, which was the same as the number of recall notices issued for consumer products in July 2019 (20 recall notices). In August 2019, there were 65 relevant product recall alerts issued through the EU’s Rapid Alert System (RAPEX), a decrease of nearly 25% from 86 recalls in the previous month.
July 2019 Consumer Product Recalls Analysis
In July 2019, there were 32 recall notices issued for consumer products by the CPSC. About a quarter of the recalls (8 recalls) were carried out by the CPSC in conjunction with Health Canada. In June 2019, there were 28 recall notices issued for consumer products by the CPSC. Four recalls were carried out by the CPSC in conjunction with Health Canada, and two recalls were carried out trilaterally between the CPSC, Health Canada and Profeco (Mexico – Procuraduria Federal Del Consumidor). In June 2019, there were 21 recall notices issued for consumer products by Health Canada, which was almost same as the number of recall notices issued for consumer products in May 2019 (19 recall notices). In June 2019, there were 66 relevant product recall alerts issued through the EU’s Rapid Alert System (RAPEX), up 10% from 60 recalls in the previous month.
May 2019 Consumer Product Recalls Analysis
In May 2019, there were 22 recall notices issued for consumer products by the CPSC. Three recalls were carried out by the CPSC in conjunction with Health Canada. In May 2019, there were 19 recall notices issued for consumer products by Health Canada, which was nearly half the number of recall notices issued for consumer products in April 2019 (32 recall notices). In May 2019, there were 60 relevant product recall alerts issued through the EU’s Rapid Alert System (RAPEX), down from 70 recalls in the previous month.

In April 2019, there were 27 recall notices issued for consumer products by the CPSC. About quarter of the recalls, totaling eight recalls, were carried out by the CPSC in conjunction with Health Canada. In April 2019, there were 32 recall notices issued for consumer products by Health Canada, which was almost twice the number of recall notices issued for consumer products in March 2019 (19 recall notices). In March 2019, there were 20 recall notices issued for consumer products by the CPSC. About one-third of the recalls, totaling six recalls, were carried out in conjunction by the CPSC and Health Canada. February 2019 Consumer Product Recalls Analysis
In February 2019, there were 18 recall notices issued for consumer products by the CPSC. Three recalls were carried out in conjunction by the CPSC and Health Canada. In addition, there were five recalls that were previously announced independently by the companies due to the government furlough. In February 2019, there were 15 recall notices issued for consumer products by Health Canada, which was fewer than the number of recall notices issued for consumer products in January 2019 (21 recall notices). In February 2019, there were 101 relevant product recall alerts issued through the EU’s Rapid Alert System (RAPEX).
January 2019 Consumer Product Recall Analysis
As the U.S. federal government was shut down from December 22, 2018 to January 25, 2019, due to lapsed funding, nine executive departments including the CPSC had to partially or fully shut down. Due to the shut down there was only one recall for the month of January. In January 2019, there were 21 recall notices issued for consumer products by Health Canada, which was fewer than the number of recall notices issued for consumer products in December 2018 (26 recall notices). In January 2019, there were 113 product recall alerts issued through the EU’s Rapid Alert System (RAPEX). Toys accounted for the overwhelming majority of product recalls with 70, followed by clothing, textiles, and fashion items with 22 recalls, hobby and sports equipment accounting for 17 recalls, and childcare articles with 4 recalls.
