Korea – Amendments Approved to Standards and Specifications for Food Utensils, Containers and Packages

The Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) has issued Notice No. 2019-2 to approve the amendments to the Standards and Specifications for Food Utensils, Containers and Packages.
The highlights of the amendments are listed below:
- Effective from 9 January 2019:
Adding the specifications for Polyethylene (PE) and Polypropylene (PP) in moisture-proof containers for dry food.
Revising the wording for recycled synthetic resins - Effective from 1 January 2020:
Expanding the prohibited use of Bisphenol A (BPA), Di-n-butylphthalate (DBP), and Benzyl-n-butylphthalate (BBP) from “feeding bottle (including feeding teat)” to “food utensils, containers and packages for infants and toddlers.”
Note:
“Infants”: less than 12 months old.
“Toddlers”: from 12 to 36 months old.
