Shear of Composite Materials by the V-Notched Beam Method ASTM D5379
The test determines shear strain, shear stress and shear modulus. The data can be used for research and development purposes concerning interply strength or composite material comparison.
Test Procedure:
A notched beam specimen is placed in a shear fixture. Strain gages can be applied to both sides of the specimen to assure that shear and not twisting occurs and failure must occur by shear. A load is applied at a specified rate until specimen failure occurs.
Specimen size:
The test specimens are 76 x 11 mm at composite thickness with a V notch above and below the 11mm dimension.
Data:
Shear Stress/Ultimate Strength, Shear Strain, Ultimate Strain and Shear Cord Modulus of elasticity
