Lubricity Testing of Diesel Fuels
Diesel fuel lubricity testing and treatment.
Diesel fuel testing laboratories offer lubricity HFRR sulfur (sulphur) analysis and treatment for diesel fuels, including ultra low sulphur fuel (ULSD). HFRR testing (High Frequency Reciprocating Rig) for ULSD diesel fuel lubricity conforms to the EN 590 specification. Testing is run to BS ISO 12156-1, IP 450 or ASTM D6079 test methods.
BS ISO 12156:
Assessment of Diesel Fuel Lubricity using the High Frequency Reciprocating Rig (HFRR) Test Method
IP 450:
Assessment of Diesel Fuel Lubricity Using the High Frequency Reciprocating Rig (HFRR).
ASTM D6079:
Standard Test Method for Evaluating Lubricity of Diesel Fuels by the High Frequency Reciprocating Rig (HFRR).
The Lubricity Scuffing Load test, BOCLE D6078, is available. Diesel fuel lubricity measures very low sulfur, sulphur severely hydroprocessed city diesel.
Low sulfur diesel and lubricity issues:
Hydroprocessing removes sulfur, along with polar and aromatic compounds, which give conventional diesel fuel adequate lubricating capability. Low lubricity in diesel fuel can cause engine problems unless treated with additives. Measurement of diesel fuel lubricity characteristics monitor lubricity additives and diesel fuel quality.
Lubricity additive treatment for diesel fuel cargo:
Intertek provides lubricity additive treatments to enhance and correct diesel fuel cargo lubricity issues. Available on a global basis, trained personnel sample the diesel fuel cargo, treat and test in the lab, and provide the type and amount of lubricity treatment on-site, at appropriate levels for the problem.
