Liquefied natural gas (LNG) tank calibration.
Intertek liquefied natural gas (LNG) tank calibration services provide accurate volume calibration of ship and shore-based LNG storage tanks.
LNG vessel tank calibration:
LNG vessel tank calibration is first conducted at the shipyard, prior to delivery. For LNG vessels already in service, recalibration of LNG vessel tanks are conducted at dry-dock or at lay berth. The vessels tanks are physically entered and measured to produce highly accurate tank volume tables to be used for LNG custody transfer purposes.
There are two types of LNG tank designs in use throughout the LNG industry. The spherical (Moss Rosenberg) design and the membrane (Gaz Transport, Technigaz) design of LNG vessel tanks make up a majority of the current global LNG Fleet. Each LNG tank design has unique characteristics, which need to be evaluated to properly determine exact dimensions, analyze the thermo effects of materials used to build the tank, and calculate adjustments or corrections (list, trim, density, thermal, etc) needed to translate a measured liquid level gauge into an accurate liquid volume.
LNG shore tank calibrations:
Most LNG shore tanks are cylindrical in design, and measured in a manner similar to other cylindrical tanks (crude oil, gasoline, etc.). Like the LNG vessel tanks, special attention is paid to the thermal properties of the materials used in the construction of the shore tank to determine and calculate any adjustments or corrections that would be needed to translate a measured liquid level gauge into an accurate liquid volume.
Industry standards and governmental compliance:
Both LNG vessel tank & LNG shore tank calibrations conducted by Intertek follow client instructions in accordance with published industry standards and compliances with the approval of government regulatory authorities in Australia, Qatar, Korea, Japan, India, Italy, Indonesia, Malaysia, Oman, USA and other nations.
