Intertek Continues Delivering Quality and Safety Solutions for Energinet’s Thor Offshore Denmark Wind Farm Project
06 Apr 2020
Liphook, Hampshire, UK: Intertek, a leading Total Quality Assurance provider to industries worldwide, has been appointed by the Danish transmission system operator, Energinet, to provide continued client representation services to assure quality and safety of the Thor offshore wind farm and export cable routes in the North Sea.
In June 2018 the Danish Parliament enacted Energy Agreement 2018, which among other parts, specifies the construction of approximately 800 – 1000 MW offshore wind power to be grid-connected by 2024 to 2027. In February 2019 the Danish Energy Agency instructed Energinet to initiate site investigations, environmental and metocean studies, and analysis for grid connection for the proposed Thor offshore wind farm.
Energinet is responsible for maintaining a high level of security of supply, integrating renewable energy, and promoting optimal conditions for Denmark’s electricity and gas markets. The company contracted Intertek in 2019 for specialist client representation services to oversee the hydrographic, geophysical and shallow geotechnical surveys undertaken over the designated wind farm area and the export cable routes. Further to these surveys, Intertek was recently appointed to also provide specialist client representation and consultancy services for the 2020 deep geotechnical drilling campaign.
Andy Page, Intertek Energy & Water’s Site Characterisation and Engineering Lead, said: “We are very pleased to continue supporting Energinet in their vision of ‘Green Energy for a Better World’ and providing expert personnel to assure quality and safety during such an exciting renewable energy project.’’
