Intertek Expert Contributes to Industry-Recognised Corrosion Management Guidelines
23 Apr 2019
Manchester, UK: Intertek, a leading Total Quality Assurance provider to industries worldwide, is pleased to have contributed to the Energy Institute’s (EI) publication Guidance for Corrosion Management in Oil and Gas Production and Processing. The fully updated and significantly expanded second edition was recently launched at an EI conference in Aberdeen.
As a key collaborator and contributor, Andrew Duncan, Intertek Production and Integrity Assurance Lead Consultant, was heavily involved with the development of this latest EI publication, which has doubled in size since the first edition. As noted by the EI, this second edition ‘incorporates the latest learning and agreed good practice from the global industry, resulting in an extended, robust set of annexes detailing corrosion mechanisms and illustrative case studies to help the practitioner apply agreed good practice in their corrosion management systems and procedures.’
The oil and gas industry is ever-mindful of the negative effect that corrosion can have on not only the operational life of an asset, but also safety risks that can impact personnel, communities and the environment as well as the potential to cost between two and four per cent of a company's turnover. It is vital that asset owners and operators implement effective corrosion management controls to ensure safety, meet global production demands and keep costs in line with budgets.
Dr David Hillis, Energy Institute Steering Group Chair, shared the Corrosion Management Committee’s (CMC) appreciation by saying: “In particular, the CMC would like to thank the technical author, Andrew Duncan of Intertek, for his expertise and diligence in the process of developing the publication.”
Andrew Duncan, Intertek Production and Integrity Assurance Lead Consultant, said: “This was a great example of industry collaboration with input from Intertek’s subject matter experts helping to shape updated industry-wide corrosion management guidelines. These will be applied globally to improve the safety and integrity of oil and gas production assets”.
