Intertek achieves NOM-007-SECRE 2010 accreditation to assist clients with regulatory requirements

Mexico City, Mexico – Intertek, a leading Total Quality Assurance provider to industries worldwide, has been accredited to NOM-007-SECRE 2010.  The accreditation allows Intertek to further support pipeline owners and operators by verifying and ensuring the safe transportation, warehousing and distribution of natural gas under the terms, regulatory and technical provisions set by Mexico’s Security, Energy and Environment Agency (ASEA).

Mexico’s natural gas operations are rapidly growing due to higher natural gas demand from industrial and electric power sectors. According to an industry report published by Mexico’s Department of Energy (SENERSecretaria de Energía), it is expected that during the next three years a dozen new natural gas pipelines will be constructed which will add an additional 3,100 miles of pipeline to the country’s network.

The NOM-007-SECRE 2010 regulatory requirements were established to define safety standards for materials and equipment used in the construction, testing and operation of pipelines throughout Mexico. Owners and operators of Mexico’s pipelines, installations and equipment, related to the transmission of natural gas, must be evaluated by an accredited body such as Intertek throughout every phase of the project.
