Intertek Reinforces the Value of Engagement with the Official Launch of Phase 3 of the Canadian Chemicals Management Plan
09 Jun 2016
Mississauga, Ontario – Intertek, a leading Total Quality Assurance provider to industries worldwide, can help companies address challenges in the risk assessment and risk management activities planned for Phase 3 of the Canadian Chemicals Management Plan (CMP3). Experts with Intertek’s Scientific and Regulatory Consultancy are available to help address the regulatory and scientific requirements of the plan.
On May 30, 2016, the Canadian Federal Government released an outline for activities set to occur during the third phase of the Chemicals Management Plan (CMP) under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act (CEPA). The “Chemicals Management Plan (CMP) Implementation Table at a Glance,” provides an overview of all Phase 3 activities, including substance assessment, product testing, evaluation of older pesticides, and new environmental rules for pharmaceutical products. With release of Phase 3 of the plan, 1,550 substances are scheduled for risk assessment between now and 2020, including a number of new substances added to the program and prioritised for review in 2015. As in previous phases of CMP, all Phase 3 substances will be investigated in an effort to identify and reduce any risks posed by hazardous chemicals.
“Intertek has been providing guidance to industry throughout the three phases of the CMP. During this next phase, the government intends to move away from issuing general mandatory surveys, thus lessening the burden on industry. However, this places the onus on industry to be aware of any government activities that may impact their business and proactively engage as required. We are here to help,” said Joyce Borkhoff, Senior Director at Intertek Scientific and Regulatory Consultancy. “I encourage stakeholders to visit our blog, “Canada requests early industry engagement for Phase 3 of the Chemicals Management Plan (CMP3)”, to better understand the benefits of engaging in the CMP risk assessment and risk management process.”
