Intertek experts present at 2014 American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) pressure vessels and piping conference
18 Jul 2014
Sunnyvale, California - Intertek, a leading quality solutions provider to industries worldwide, will address key topical issues at the 2014 ASME Pressure Vessels and Piping (PVP) conference in Anaheim, California July 20-24th.
Marvin Cohn, Intertek Piping Asset Integrity Management Director, said: “The industry is facing many issues, including the development and implementation of fracture mechanics rules in ASME Section X1 and the asset integrity of Grade 91 piping systems. Intertek has been working on these and other issues and our AIM team members look forward to presenting and sharing their research and expertise with their industry peers at the conference.”
Experts from Intertek’s Asset Integrity Management (AIM) team will present three papers on topics affecting pressure vessel and piping technologies within the power and process industries:
- ‘Detection of incipient SCC damage in primary loop piping using fiber optic strain gages’, (Ben Jackson, Ph.D.)
- ‘Creep life evaluations of ASME B31.1 allowance for variation from normal operation’, (Marvin Cohn, P.E., P.Eng.)
- ‘Frequency distribution curves for main steam piping multiaxial stresses’, (Marvin Cohn, P.E., P. Eng.)
Managing risk and the reliability of piping and equipment is challenging. Life management of infrastructure, facilities, and their corresponding components is critical to ensure assets are safely performing at optimal capacity. Corrosion, cracking, deformation and other damaging effects can increase the chance of failure and increase safety risks. Owners and operators within the power and process industries meet these challenges by way of asset integrity management programs which incorporate engineering, inspection, testing, assessment, and other key technical services.
The Intertek AIM team attending the conference includes Marvin Cohn; Director of Failure Analysis Laboratories, Benjamin Jackson; Senior Mechanical Engineer, David Bosko; Principal Engineer, Russell Cipolla; and, Senior Engineer, Wei Le. In addition to participating as session developers, chairs, and co-chairs for this event, Intertek is taking part in technical committee meetings associated with materials and fabrication, codes and standards, and design and analysis.
The ASME 2014 PVP Conference is an international technical forum for participants to further their knowledge base by being exposed to diverse topics, and exchange opinions and ideas both from industry and academia. More than 175 paper and panel sessions are planned, as well as workshops, tutorials, Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) and software demonstration forums.
