Intertek recognised for outstanding water saving efforts

Intertek receives the Champion Water Efficiency Management Plan Award in Perth, Western Australia

Intertek's Minerals facility in Perth, Western Australia, has been recognized for its outstanding water saving efforts by the Western Australian Government as part of its Water Efficiency Management Program (WEMP). The Western Australian Water Minister, Mia Davies, recognised businesses across the region for their efforts in saving more than 13 billion litres of drinking water in 2012-13 - enough to fill the equivalent of almost 6,000 Olympic swimming pools!

The recognition ceremony was attended by Intertek Managing Director, Cathie Mackenzie, Global Operations Manager, Don Boyle and Western Australia Operations Manager, Rob Chapman, who received both Champion and Platinum awards on behalf of Intertek. The 'Champion' awards were introduced this year for those businesses achieving Platinum or Gold awards for two consecutive years. The businesses involved in the WEMP program account for approximately 37% of Western Australia's non-residential water use (or approximately 31.9 billion litres per year).

Rob Chapman, Intertek Operations Manager Western Australia, said: "We are very pleased with our Perth Management team effort. They devised a way to reduce our water usage by 60% at our Maddington site, by utilising water previously sent to waste as a byproduct of deionized water production (purified water). Their initiative has not only resulted in a positive contribution to the environment but also scooped us an award for the second year running."
