Intertek, the global provider of quality and safety services, will address key topical issues at the NACE CORROSION 2014 conference this week. Corrosion costs $276 billion  annually in the US alone and is often responsible for damage, downtime and the costly replacement of vital industrial infrastructure on a global scale.

Experts from Intertek’s corrosion solutions team will present six papers on current topics that affect the oil and gas and a range of other industries globally at NACE CORROSION 2014. The event will take place at the Henry B Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio, Texas, between 9th and 13th March.

Raymond Pirie, Vice President of Exploration and Production services at Intertek, said: “Corrosion is a significant problem across several sectors, resulting in downtime, loss of productivity and safety issues. At Intertek we have developed services to alleviate these problems and look forward to sharing our expertise at NACE CORROSION 2014.”

“This is an important event for the sector and Intertek will present findings and experience on a range of topics with our industry peers. Being able to present six papers in 2014 is a great opportunity.”

More than 6,000 representatives and 380 exhibitors from industry, government and academia are expected to attend the annual event, which is the world’s largest corrosion conference.

Topics on the agenda this year cover corrosion issues across a wide variety of sectors, including oil and gas production, defence, energy generation, transmission, maritime, transport and water.

Providing corrosion testing, analysis and consulting on an international basis, Intertek has a total of nine corrosion centres located across five countries. Capabilities cover all aspects of materials degradation and corrosion control.

Intertek’s wider Asset Integrity Management (AIM) services will also be represented at the convergence. Focusing on maximising efficiency and safety while ensuring the integrity of vital systems, this division supports the oil, gas, petrochemical, power, renewable energy, civil and infrastructure engineering industries.

Additionally, as integrity issues can incur unplanned shutdowns, Intertek will be showcasing its Risk-Based Inspections (RBI) at NACE CORROSION 2014, an approach that minimises downtime and ensures equipment longevity for oil and chemical plants.

Intertek’s corrosion solutions team will be available at booth 1639 to discuss corrosion challenges and services for the duration of the conference.
