Boca Raton, FL, USA – Intertek, the leading quality solutions provider to industries worldwide announced that Ralph Simmons formerly with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has joined the company as a member of the regulatory team addressing the FDA and international regulatory status of food-contact substances and food products.
“We are excited to have Mr Simmons join Intertek as he is a transformational leader that will drive our solutions and expansion of services,” stated Naeem Mady, Vice President of Health, Environmental, and Regulatory, Intertek. “Mr Simmons brings with him world class expertise in an area of significant need for our clients. He will provide critical support in helping clients generate the right kind of data to achieve regulatory compliance and knowledge to accelerate development of our client’s future products, to improve manufacturing processes, and to enhance efficiency.”
Mr Simmons has taken a lead role in representing the industry on many policy issues in front of the FDA and similar authorities in other countries. He has worked with the U.S. Congress and the FDA to create and protect important FDA programs such as the innovative process for more rapid clearance of new product packaging materials.
Previously, Mr Simmons served in the FDA as senior policy analyst with respect to the development and implementation of FDA regulations and policies related to food additive safety. Prior to joining the FDA, Mr Simmons spent more than 20 years in private practice counselling clients, including many of the major U.S. food producers and food packaging manufacturers, on FDA and international regulation of food-contact substances. He also represented clients in the regulation of direct food additives, animal feed additives, food labelling, drugs, and medical devices, among other FDA areas. He has litigated cases in state and federal trial and appellate courts, and has represented trade associations in corporate, antitrust, tax, regulatory, and legislative matters.
