Intertek signs partnership agreement with CIEMAT the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness research centre
14 Jan 2013
Bilbao, Spain - Intertek, the leading quality and safety solutions provider to industries worldwide, has recently signed an agreement with the Research Centre for Energy, Environment and Technology, CIEMAT (Centro de Investigaciones Energéticas, Medioambientales y Tecnológicas). The agreement is for testing, validation and certification of small wind turbines at a new test site in the municipality of Villar del Río, Soria, Spain.
CIEMAT is an autonomous body under the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness and will bring its expertise in small wind turbines measurement testing, evaluation and reporting according to IEC, BWEA and AWEA standards to the project.
Intertek is an accredited certification body for all types of wind turbines and will carry out performance evaluation and safety certifications for those intended for commercial use. Additionally, Intertek will manage the construction of the new test site, which will carry out wind turbines testing, in the municipality of Villar del Río, in the province of Soria.
Ramon Lopez, Intertek Commercial and Electrical Energy Services Project Manager, said: "We are delighted to work with CIEMAT for testing, evaluation and certification of small wind turbines. Both organisations are focused on verifying the reliability, security and performance of this technology, in order to help our clients improve their profitability, meet industry requirements and avoid future problems."
With growing demand for electricity across the world, there is a need to use diverse sources of power generation to meet that demand – whilst at the same time reducing global carbon emissions, reducing reliance on traditional fossil fuels and ensuring sustainability; the energy harnessed by small wind turbine technology makes a significant contribution to this effort. Small wind turbines are machines that convert mechanical energy created by the action of the wind on small blade arrays into electrical energy that can be stored, used at source or distributed through the electrical grid network to other users.
