Intertek Offers Comprehensive Solutions for Addressing the Recast Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive 2012/19/EU
13 Sep 2012
Ottawa, ON, Canada – Intertek, a leading provider of quality and safety services to a wide range of industries around the world, provides logistical, operational, financial, and technical consulting solutions for WEEE recycling compliance. As these WEEE requirements are country specific within the European Union, Intertek’s services are designed to conform to each country's rules and regulations, in all ten WEEE Directive categories. Intertek works directly with manufacturers to rapidly and cost-effectively fulfil their WEEE compliance requirements.
The recast WEEE Directive (DIRECTIVE 2012/19/EU (recast)) has been published in the Official Journal of the European Union on 24 July 2012, and has already entered into force. Producers of electronic and electrical products must transition to an open scope, process for harmonized registration, reporting, and producer definition, meet the requirements for Authorised Representative for offshore manufacturers with no importer, and meet increased recovery targets.
Intertek’s WEEE services include the design of a WEEE fulfilment plan, including the determination of product requirements for WEEE compliance, WEEE Product Registration, creation of WEEE Treatment Instructions and calculation of re-use, recycling, and recovery rates. The service also includes services to determine the value of returned or recycled components and a database for interaction with recyclers and compliance schemes is available for optimal support. In addition, Intertek supports Bill of Material data gathering and assessment, general WEEE Consulting, WEEE training, and parallel review of RoHS compliance.
”The European Union continues to increase their targets for recycling and enforces such on companies who fail to address such requirements”, said Dr. Ruud Overbeek, Vice President of Global Health, Environmental, and Regulatory Services at Intertek. “We help businesses meet these challenging new requirements in time, locally and globally.”
