Intertek to present paper Identifying how to Manage Declarable Chemical Substances in Electronics at EGG 2012

The European REACH regulation (EC No 1907/2006), recast of the EU RoHS Directive (2011/65/EU) and other global substance regulations impose significant challenges for all businesses in the electrical and electronics industry. Many manufacturers will not know if the presence of some substances is possible or likely in their products. As of June 2012, the REACH Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC) Candidate List includes 84 substances and is growing quickly. The short timeframe in which SVHC are introduced creates a significant challenge for the industry. The new recast RoHS Directive as of January 2013 expands to new product categories and requires CE marking as well as detailed and comprehensive Compliance Documentation for all product categories. Therefore, information about the possible presence of substances of concern and appropriate techniques and tools for product compliance assessment and documentation are critical to achieve substance conformity in a cost effective manner.
Intertek experts Walter Jager, Joe Langton, and Torben Norlem, Esq. have now co-authored a paper titled Identifying and Managing Substances of Concern in Electronics. This paper presents systematic restricted and declarable substance compliance and assessment methods based on supply chain information, analytical testing, and sound engineering judgment.
The paper will be showcased at the Electronics Goes Green Congress and Exhibition in Berlin, Germany September 9-12, 2012 during the Data and Compliance Management in the Supply Chain Preliminary Program.
