Lintec Expands Global Marine Fuel Testing Services

Marine fuel testing is important for ship operators, charterers, and the global maritime industry. With fuel expenses reaching 60% of total ship operating costs, burning poor quality fuels can cause costly engine damage and down-time, and the ship may violate regulatory emission requirements. Lintec’s expansion helps to ensure clients successfully manage these bunker fuel issues.

Lintec has a long history of working with ISO to produce international marine fuel standards, and keeping pace with rapid changes in marine industry. With new IMO emission regulations, there is a real need for marine fuel testing as fuel quality issues continue to pose operational problems. It is conservatively estimated that around 3% of all marine fuels are causing some operating problems, which is significant.

Approximately, only 50% of ships test their fuels, the remainder are taking serious and potentially expensive risks by not having their fuels analyzed. Intertek’s strengths in service, know-how and delivery bring a welcome alternative and added-value to the global marine market.
