Intertek to hold briefing on Nuclear Energy Plant Safety & Integrity Assessment

Intertek, the leading global provider of safety and quality services to a wide range of industries, will hold an online briefing by its nuclear safety and engineering experts on safety and integrity assessment of nuclear energy facilities on 7 April 2011.

Intertek provides hazard, threat and risk assessment services to owners and operators of nuclear facilities. These assessments provide an independent analysis of the safety and security of plants and the systems and sequences within them against external events.

Intertek's briefing will cover some of the different options and methodologies available for modelling and assessing risks related to nuclear energy assets. This includes probabilistic risk and safety assessment methods (PRA) which address low frequency high impact hazards to update threat analyses in light of new information that may be forthcoming after the events in Japan.

Intertek works with owners and operators to evaluate the safety and reliability of nuclear energy infrastructure through independent testing, inspection and probabilistic risk analysis. Its services help clients to model overall risks as well as more specific risks related to materials, component and mechanical processes and risks from ventilation, thermo-hydraulics and steam reactor systems.
