Intertek's ETL Certification Now Accepted on Products Imported Into Mexico

New Resolution from Mexican Government recognizes ETL as Equivalent to NOM Certification for three NOM Standards
Mexico City, September 08, 2010 — Intertek (LSE: ITRK), a global leader in testing, inspection and certification, announced that their ETL Certification will now be accepted in Mexico as a product’s proof of compliance to applicable safety standards. The new resolution, published by the Mexican Government in the August 17th edition of the Official Gazette, acknowledged equivalence between three prominent Mexican NOM standards and their US and Canadian counterparts. The Government thereby created equivalent recognition between select North American certification bodies such as Intertek to Mexico’s NOM certification for a limited scope of electrical and electronic products imported into Mexico.
This decision provides manufacturers who choose Intertek’s ETL certification with immediate access to the Mexican marketplace. It is intended to improve the competitiveness of small and medium-sized Mexican companies, and benefit Mexican consumers by making a wider range of products more accessible.
The decree affects the following NOM standards and the corresponding ANSI/UL and CSA standards:
- NOM 001-SCFI 1993 (scope limited to audio and video devices) equivalent to ANSI/UL 60065, UL 6500 and CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 60065-2003+ Amendment 1
- NOM-016 SCFI 1993 Household and electrical appliances equivalent to ANSI/UL 60335-1 and CAN/CSA-E60335-1/4E-03 (R2007)
- NOM-019 SCFI 1998 Information Technology Equipment – Safety – equivalent to ANSI/UL 60950-1 2nd edition and CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 60950-1-07 2nd edition
"Intertek’s reputation as a world-class Certification Body helped facilitate the decision to accept the ETL certification on products entering Mexico," stated Richard Adams, Vice President, Global Engineering and Certifications, Intertek, "The ETL Mark now provides even greater value to manufacturers looking to market their products across all of North America, and we remain committed to facilitating such trade and servicing the needs of Mexican manufacturers and consumers."
