Intertek (www.intertek.com/reach) the leading provider of quality and safety solutions and outsourcing services to a wide range of industries worldwide, has launched a new outsourcing program to further aid companies’ compliance with new REACH[1] legislation in the EU. The outsourcing program complements Intertek’s existing REACH services which include registration, ‘only representative’ services for non-EU based companies, supplier audit and verification, and testing services. Intertek’s REACH outsourcing includes project management, project planning, infrastructure for gathering data from the supply chain, regulatory support, SIEF[2] management, dossier creation, supplier auditing, chemical management, and chemical testing services.

REACH requires chemicals being manufactured or imported in the EU to be tested and registered for health and safety aspects, placing new obligations on companies across the supply chain and from a range of industries. Retailers of consumer goods, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, paints and many other products; as well as their manufacturers, buyers, import licensees and distributors are impacted by the legislation. Consequently, they are seeking additional expertise, guidance and resources to asses and ensure they can achieve and maintain compliance with the new legislation, its various stages and its deadlines.

Under Intertek’s REACH outsourcing program, Intertek experts and laboratories become an extended internal compliance team for clients, giving them critical skills that would otherwise be costly and time-consuming to develop. Clients can outsource portions of, or the complete REACH compliance procedure to Intertek for both short- or medium-term projects. With a focus on interaction with, and gathering data from a client.s supply chain; consolidation and completion of testing and documentation requirements; management of SIEF interactions; and submission of registration forms, Intertek’s experts are tuned-in to the REACH processes.

Intertek has a successful track-record as an outsourcing partner for quality, safety, compliance, analytical and supply chain related services for major international and local companies in many industries around the world. These services are often ‘non-core’ activities within client-corporations that require a high level of expertise and equipment, among other things, to run effectively. Outsourcing to Intertek’s global network of leading experts and laboratories brings world-class expertise, performance, and financial, quality and productivity benefits to clients’ business and employees. By outsourcing REACH activities clients gain critical skills, cost reductions, and on-demand expert support for the diverse and complicated requirements of the REACH Regulation.

“REACH is a complex and many-tiered regulation whose obligations are similarly stratified based on the role of the individual in the supply and sales chain and the types of products that are handled,” states Bruce Calder, General Manager of the Intertek REACH Centre in Ottawa. “Intertek has an established record of enabling our clients’ compliance and registration efforts, providing not only cost-savings but also the competitive advantage of expert assistance.”

For non-EU based companies, Intertek also offers a comprehensive array of “Only Representative” services. Intertek has a proven track record of project management, outsourcing, and registration in the EU and can provide a range of services from general regulatory support to complete project management of your company’s REACH program. The next recommended step is to discuss your program with Intertek’s REACH experts and determine how the REACH outsourcing program can best meet your needs.
