FAA Names Intertek Certification Agency for Visual Guidance Lighting
31 Jul 2007
Intertek announces it has been named a certification agency for the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Visual Guidance Lighting Equipment Approval Program (VGLEAP). The program includes the testing and certification of lighting and visual aid equipment, such as runway approach lighting, to applicable FAA standards for safety, performance, and quality.
As part of the testing and inspection for the VGLEAP program, Intertek will evaluate airport visual aid equipment to ensure that it has been manufactured to perform in accordance with applicable FAA specifications. The testing and inspection of these products will provide the FAA with independent verification of product quality, ultimately helping to bolster safe airport operations.
"We are honored to be once again chosen as a service provider by the Federal Aviation Administration,” said David Edwards, general manager for Intertek’s Lighting Group. “By partnering with Intertek for the testing and certification of the approach lighting systems, the Navigation Services Organization of the Federal Aviation Administration can focus their efforts toward creating new specifications and the commissioning of approach installations."
Since 1989, Intertek has supported the FAA with standards and program development for various testing and verification programs. Intertek is also an administrator for the FAA’s Airport Lighting Equipment Certification Program. In partnership with the FAA, Intertek provides performance evaluations for all types of airport lighting products including beacons, obstructions, runway, taxiway, and approach system lights.
