Intertek to Run RoHS Monitoring for Swedish Authorities

Intertek, a leading international provider of quality and safety services to a wide range of global and local industries is to help Swedish authorities monitor electrical and electronics products sold in the country for restricted hazardous substances.

Intertek will provide support to the Swedish Chemicals Agency (Kemikalieinspektionen). The authority is responsible for the enforcement of products and articles under the RoHS directive in Sweden. Kemikalieinspektionen will monitor and co-ordinate the surveillance of products sold in Sweden for compliance with the European Union’s Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) directive that took effect in 2006. ROHS laws aim to protect the environment and consumers by limiting the hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment.

"Our resources and experience in testing, inspection, monitoring and co-ordination through our existing electrical safety market and EMC surveillance programmes will bring efficiencies to Kemi, and ultimately greater protection to the Swedish environment and consumers’ safety through support of local laws".

In Europe, Intertek already provides RoHS market surveillance to authorities in Finland. Internationally, the company provides a range of solutions to private and public organizations for restricted substances compliance including sound traceability systems, testing, auditing, due diligence policy enforcement, and training and advisory services for markets and legislation including for instance the EU, China, Korea, Japan, and USA.
