Nutritional Labelling of Food
Exporters are reminded to comply with Saudi Technical Regulation No. SFDA.FD 2233- Requirements of Nutritional Labelling for food imports. This regulation was implemented in January 2021 the Saudi Authorities will take legal action against those companies who fail to comply with the regulation. Exporters of such food products must also ensure that marking and labelling are compliant with other mandatory requirements.
Certificate of Conformity for Fresh Produce
Further to the mandatory compliance of prepackaged food products, the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) has announced that starting from 15th of September 2021, all consignments of fresh vegetables, fresh fruits, agricultural crops, and spices exported from Egypt, India and Jordan shall require a Certificate of Conformity (CoC) for their Customs clearance at Saudi Arabia’s Ports and Borders.
Such consignments shall comply with the mandatory SFDA Standard Regulation for the specific commodity. SFDA has further emphasized that these shipments shall also comply with the Technical Regulation SFDA.FD 382 for the Maximum Limits of Pesticide Residues in Agricultural and Food Products and GSO 1016 for the Microbiological Standards for Food Products.
An additional mandatory requirement of products coming from Egypt is a test report issued by an ISO 17025-accredited laboratory stating that the consignment has been tested for the absence of Hepatitis A virus.
Exporters are advised to obtain CoCs for such food product shipments to avoid any Saudi Customs clearance issues at the KSA Ports/Borders on its arrival.
