Verification of Labeling for Exports to Mexico
07 Sep 2017
Intertek is accredited as a Commercial Information Verification Unit (UVA 0079) for Standard (NOM) 17020, authorising us to inspect and validate commercial information contained on the labels of specific products exported to Mexico
Exporters/Importers of specified products for the Mexican market have evidence of compliance with the relevant Norma Oficial Mexicana (NOM) standards.
Intertek is accredited to carry out the necessary Label inspections to issue either the "Proof of Conformity" or "Compliance Report" dependent on which is most suited to your requirements and location for the following products:
- Textiles
- Toys
- Textiles, Shoes and Leather Goods
- Electronics and Electricals
- Food and Beverages
- Cosmetics
- Household Cleaning Products
The importer or exporter must submit an inspection request (RFI or SDI) to the Intertek office nearest to the site from where the products will be shipped (or, in the importer’s case, to the Intertek Mexico Office). The request should be accompanied by all documents related to the shipment, such as invoice, packing list, and most importantly, a copy of the label of the product that is to be exported or imported.
After receiving the RFI, Intertek will communicate the approval of the same by assigning a reference number to the request, preceded by the initials MXL, which enables tracking throughout the whole process of inspection.
Once the request and information have been received, and it has been determined which of the two types of documents is required(“Compliance Report” or “Proof of Conformity”), Intertek will contact the exporter to schedule the inspection. Once the inspection report is received and the labels comply, Intertek will issue the relevant document.
NOMs ensure that the products comply with Mexican Safety and Quality Standards and give the consumer total quality assurance of the goods they are purchasing.
