Exporting Engine Oil to Kuwait - Ban on Specific API Engine Oil Service Categories

As per the latest update received from the Public Authority for Industry (PAI) regarding the banned/acceptable grades of vehicles engine oil, PAI requests all importers and manufacturers of engine oil products to abide by the Ministerial decision No.16/2014 issued on19/03/2014, which has approved the updated GSO standard No.1785/2013 regarding vehicle engine oil as an obligatory Kuwaiti technical regulation. GSO 1785/2013 includes an update regarding the cancellation of the following API performance categories for diesel engine oil, which were valid in the previous issue: CF, CF-2, CF-4, CG-4.

Therefore, the API performance categories allowed in the updated GSO standard are limited to the following:

•    Gasoline engine oil: SJ, SL, SM, SN
•    Diesel engine oil: CH-4, CI-4, CJ-4

The applicable date for the enforcement of this requirement is 16/09/2014.

The Public Authority for Industry will launch an intensified campaign to ensure all importers and manufacturers are in adherence to the relevant applied laws and regulations in Kuwait as of 16/09/2014. Please note that the Authority shall apply penalties and punishments on violators according to relevant law articles stipulated in the Decree Law No. 128/1977 regarding standardization and industry law No. 56/1996.
