Algeria Ministerial Note on Marking of Importer Details

In May 2011, the Algerian Ministry of Commerce published a note on their website relating to the labeling of the importer name on all imported products
This note was published after the Services of Quality and Fraud Control at the Algeria borders, under the authority of the Ministry of Commerce, found that the labeling on products bore incorrect names and addresses of importers. A number of shipments have been blocked from entry into Algeria for this reason.
Finally, the note states that from 1st July 2011, shipments not bearing the exact importer name and other details will be rejected at Algeria Customs without exception.
The importer address on the product’s labeling must match the:
- Commercial Invoice
- Letter of Credit
- Importer register of commerce
The following will no longer be accepted:
- Over-labeling with a different address
- Double labeling with a different address
- Labeling with an incorrect importer address or with an address different from that which is declared on the importer registry of commerce.
Consequently based on this note, exporters must ensure that they get the exact identity and contact details of the importer so that the same is reflected on the product labeling.
