Join our expert, Alan Scott, FAIA, LEED Fellow, LEED AP BD+C, O+M, WELL AP, CEM, for a complimentary on-demand webinar titled "Exploring Embodied Carbon". AIA Members will earn 1.5 LU|HSW CEUs.
Due to growing climate change concerns, building professionals are increasingly challenged to prioritizing the decarbonization of the buildings they design, build, and operate. Carbon emissions from buildings include both operational carbon and embodied carbon. Until recently, emission reduction strategies have focused on operational carbon, but embodied carbon reduction is becoming increasingly important.
The webinar is designed to give building professionals a deep understanding of this emerging issue and prepare them to address it on projects. We will define embodied carbon and why it is important, explain the difference between embodied and operational carbon, describe how embodied carbon is measured, and explore strategies for reducing the embodied carbon footprint of construction. We will also describe how embodied carbon reduction is reflected in sustainable building rating systems, and review tools available to calculate embodied carbon and manage the reduction process.
