Informational Bulletin: Changes to AC273 for Handrails & Guards
Handrails & guards are crucial safety features necessary to minimize injuries and deaths due to accidental falls from elevated surfaces. Acceptance Criteria 273 was developed by ICC-ES in early 2008 to address requirements for these components of balconies and decks not referenced in the International Building Code (IBC) and International Residential Code (IRC). On June 6th, 2017 proposed changes to AC273 went into effect. This informational bulletin provides a complete list of the changes to the testing requirements affecting steel and aluminum rails.
