Safety Footwear - EU and UK Requirements
Protective footwear intended to be used by individuals which is sold within the European Community is subject to the Personal Protective Equipment Regulation. Intertek is approved as a European notified body to carry out EC Type Examinations by assessment of technical files for products such as safety footwear, protective gloves, buoyancy aids for children, high visibility clothing, flame and fire retardant clothing, equestrian body protection, and motorcycle impact protection.
In the UK, Intertek is licensed by Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) as a UK notified body to carry out UKCA Type Examinations.
The CE and/or UKCA Mark indicates that the personal protective equipment to which it is affixed complies with all the requirements that have been imposed upon it by means of the European PPE Regulation (EU) 2016/425. The CE/UKCA Mark refers to the safety rather than the quality of a product.
Conformity is established by following clear and understandable procedures, as prescribed in the PPE Regulation. Intertek can guide you through the Certification process by:
- Advising upon the Harmonised standard(s) that may be applicable to your PPE item
- Identifying locations where compliant testing can be performed by a competent authority
- Providing assistance with the format for a suitable technical file
- Enabling you to meet your obligations in relation to the Regulation by providing training regarding preparation of the technical file and related documentation required for EC Type assessment.
