During this webinar, we will consider the different approaches available to testing and qualifying non-metallic materials. We test in accordance with national, international and industry standards and to bespoke protocols for:

  • Chemical compatibility testing
  • HPHT testing, including:
    • Sweet and sour service
    • Rapid gas decompression

  • Life estimation
  • Materials analysis and characterisation
    • Polymer material testing
    • Material identification
    • Thermal analysis
    • Chemical and weathering resistance

  • Coatings and corrosion testing

Non-Metallics Materials or polymers, including elastomers, thermoplastics & thermosets and composite materials, may be used in many applications for oil and gas exploration and production, including:

  • Safety critical sealing and containment functions
  • Low weight, high strength structural elements
  • Piping and tubing
  • Coatings and linings for tubular goods, tanks and vessels

Polymers are susceptible to interactions with their service environment which might render their short-term properties inadequate; they may be permeable to, and absorb, gases and liquids and vulnerable to physical and chemical change in contact with produced fluids and treatment chemicals.  Their long-term properties and service life may also be limited by the effects of time, temperature and applied load (creep) and subject to ageing effects by thermal oxidation and hydrolysis etc.

In a conservative industry, the selection of non-metallic materials often requires special consideration.  Confidence in material performance by stringent materials testing and analysis is essential to substantiate material selection choices.

Intertek, a Total Quality Assurance provider, is second to none in its ability to provide tailored quality testing solutions for oilfield services through our broad range of capabilities, knowledge and state of the art testing facilities.
