Standard: ICC-ES AC491 – Acceptance Criteria for Self-Drilling Tapping Screws used with Aluminum

Certification Required: For certification according to the requirements of the International Building Code and International Residential Code

Scope: The acceptance criteria stipulates requirements for recognition of carbon steel self-drilling tapping screws used in engineered aluminum-to-aluminum, aluminum-to-steel, and steel-to-aluminum connections.

Applicable Products: Self-Drilling Tapping Screws made of carbon steel (including dual-hardened), stainless steel, and bi-metal materials in #8, #10, #14, and ¼ inch sizes

Test Procedures: Fasteners are evaluated against manufacturer specifications for dimensions and tested for hardness, ductility, corrosion resistance, drill-drive, shear and tensile strength, bending moment strength, connection shear strength, pull-out strength and pull-over strength.

End Result: To address determination of fastener strength and mechanical properties, and connection strengths for independent limit states
