ASTM E331: Standard Test Method for Water Penetration of Exterior Windows, Skylights, Doors and Curtain Walls by Uniform Static Air Pressure Difference
Standard: ASTM E331 – Standard Test Method for Water Penetration of Exterior Windows, Skylights, Doors and Curtain Walls by Uniform Static Air Pressure Difference
Scope: This test method addresses water penetration through a manufactured assembly. Water that penetrates the assembly but does not result in a failure, may have adverse effects on the performance of contained materials such as sealants and insulating or laminated glass. This test method does not address these issues.
Applicable Products: All products seeking NAFS compliant reports for fenestration products.
Test Procedure: Adjust the water spray to the specified rate. Apply the air-pressure difference within 15 s and maintain this pressure, along with the specified rate of water spray, for 15 min. Remove the air-pressure difference and stop the water spray. Observe and record the points of water penetration, if any.
End Result: Verification that the product does or does not meet the performance criteria for Fenestration products. A comprehensive test report will be issued at the end of the conclusion of testing.
