Sequence VIF Test (ASTM D8226)
Engine
The Sequence VIF test uses a General Motors, spark ignition, four stroke, V6 DOHC with a displacement of 3.6 L. The engine is used on passenger cars and light-duty trucks with a gross vehicle weight of 3856 kg or less. The test engine is purchased as a test ready unit and the external dress components are assembled according to the 2012 Chevrolet Malibu Service Manual.
Test Operation
The Sequence VIF test method is to measure the laboratory engine break specific fuel consumption (BSFC) at six constant speed/torque/temperature conditions for the baseline calibration oil, test oil, and repeated of the baseline calibration oil. The test is limited to SAE 0W-16 multigrade oils. The approximate test length is 197 hours. The test results are expressed as a percent change in the weighted fuel consumption relative to the baseline calibration oil.
