Sequence IVB Test (ASTM D8350)

The Sequence IVB test uses a 2011 Toyota 2NR-FE, in-line 4 cylinder, 16 valve engine with a displacement of 1.5 L. The engine is a DOHC, four valves per cylinder, direct acting mechanical bucket lifter valve train design. The camshafts, and mechanical bucket lifters are replaced prior to each test.
Test Operation
The Sequence IVB test method is used to measure the ability of an engine’s oil to control valve-train wear and overall engine wear, at low temperature operating conditions. The test is designed to simulate extended engine cyclic vehicle operation. The test runs for a total of 200 hours. The test is composed of two 7 second steady state stages separated by 8 second transitions. The test cycle is repeated 24,000 times.

- ACEA A7/B7 and C6 Limits: Average Intake Lifter Volume Loss = ≤ 2.7 mm3, End of Test Iron ≤ 400 ppm.
- ACEA A3/B4, A5/B5, C2, C3, C4 and C5: Average Intake Lifter Volume Loss = ≤ 3.3 mm3, End of Test Iron ≤ 400 ppm.
