Ryan M. Parente, M.S. Manager, Scientific and Regulatory Affairs, Food & Nutrition
As a Manager of Scientific and Regulatory Affairs within the Food & Nutrition Group at Intertek Assuris, Mr. Parente brings a broad area of specialties ranging from nanoscale characterization of food ingredients to knowledge of regulatory authorization of botanical, cellular, and microbially-derived food ingredients. His specialty lies in the core Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) work in the U.S.,including publication of toxicological safety studies. This expertise also extends toregulatory submissions for novel food and color additives as well as regulatory provisions regarding dietary supplements. Mr. Parente has also conducted recent project work concerning authorization of cellular/cultured meat in the United States, focusing on aspects of both FDA and USDA pre-market approval.
In addition to human food regulatory authorizations, Mr. Parente has also prepared several animal feed ingredient submissions for US authorization, including GRAS and AAFCO Ingredient Definition Petitions. As such, he is responsible for critical review, evaluation, and interpretation of scientific literature on the safety and suitability of feed ingredients as relates to the target animal species and consumer exposure.
Mr. Parente received his M.S. in Nanotechnology from the University of Central Florida. His thesis project included the synthesis and characterization of a fluorescent conjugate to determine the translocation kinetics of antibiotics in citrus plants. He received his B.S. (Honors) in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Central Florida and concurrently assisted with a series of retrospective research studies in the AdventHealth Orlando Radiology Department. Incorporating a breadth of knowledge from biomedicine, physical chemistry, botany, and nanoscience, Mr. Parente now utilizes this expertise to assist clients in achieving regulatory compliance.
